Job Duties

VDOT’s Right of Way Division is seeking a team member to perform rail coordination necessary for highway projects, ensuring all activities and plan designs are prepared and accomplished in accordance with state and federal procedures. The selected candidate will serve as the liaison between VDOT and rail companies across the state, working to secure agreements and right of entries prior to project advertisement; process railroad PE and construction invoices; participate in meetings with railroad stakeholders; interpret and review highway plans to determine rail conflicts; determine cost responsibility and easement requirements; and perform site inspections to aid in project closeouts.

Minimum Qualifications

• Highway construction and engineering principles and practices and knowledge of engineering and construction methods and state and federal policies and procedures related to rail requirements for highway projects.
• Must have knowledge of railroad design requirements and construction procedures.
• The selected candidate must have skill in the use of computers and software applications and the ability to interpret utility and highway plans and specifications and to prepare cost estimates.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers is also required.

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Business Administration or related field desired.
• The preferred candidate will possess experience related to highway engineering, construction, or right of way or rail design or rail construction.
• Skill in the use of automated engineering software and systems, such as Microstation and Project Wise is also preferred.
