Job Duties

Manages the daily functions of the University’s Cash and Investment office. Ensures all aspects of the Cash and Investment office functions are performed accurately and within required timeframes. This includes managing endowment and investments functions; preparing internal performance reports for management for planning and decision making; providing quarterly reports to show performance of the endowment pool; reviewing and approving journal entries, deposit certificates, and other transactions for processing. Supervise the Cash and Investment staffing. Reviewing and approving quarterly and annual reports. Assisting with NACUBO survey. This position will also review and approve electronic payments to include ensuring the processing of wire transfers; drawdowns for federal grants; reviewing, approving and releasing electronic payments in the online banking system. Ensures that adequate review and separation of duties relating to all aspects of banking functions are adequate. Ensures local checks are accurately printed. This position will provide both assistance and required information to internal and external customers to include Senior Level Management, VSU Board of Visitors, and other Offices throughout the University and externally. Ensures that all reports, studies, and surveys are completed timely and accurately. This includes assisting in the year-end closeout of the University’s Financial system and preparation of year-end reports related to the Cash and Investment function. Assists with audits of the University’s financial records as required by State policies. Ensures that year end reports and DOA attachments are completed accurately and within established deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications


Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, with emphasis on colleges and universities.

Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing in conjunction with working in a team environment.

Ability to supervise and assist staff in establishing working goals to accomplish the objectives of tasks.

Experience in developing policies and procedures.

Demonstrated ability to perform strategic thinking and possess excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex fiscal policies and procedures.

Knowledge of banking practices related to cash management is a plus.

Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of agency or institution fiscal needs.

Demonstrated ability to assemble, analyze and prepare reports and statements covering complex financial data.

Ability to develop and make effective presentations to management. Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and computer applications as a resource tool.

Additional Considerations

Graduation from a college or university with major studies in accounting or business administration/management is preferred; or equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the aforementioned knowledge and abilities.

Possession of a CPA/CGFM certificate and/or experience in higher education.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with the Banner and Cardinal accounting systems.

At least two (2) years of experience working in a fast-paced higher education business environment

Supervisory experience is a plus for this position.
