Job Duties
Serve as Pilot in Command operating the Department of Aviation’s aircraft for the purpose of providing safe, efficient transportation of the Governor, cabinet and other state personnel conducting official business. Subject to being scheduled 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Pilot duties include, but not limited to obtaining and interpreting weather from the U.S. Government and private vendors, flight planning of route and cruising altitude to optimize performance of aircraft in order to reduce time and cost of operation to the Commonwealth, and to ensure the safe conduct of flight. Conduct routine pre-flight and post-flight inspections of the aircraft to include supervision of refueling and servicing. Secure and clean the aircraft at the completion of the duty day. Assist in the scheduling details, passenger briefing of flight, aircraft and baggage assistance. Aid in the development and institution of Departmental policies and procedures consistent with basic directives and compliance with all standards. Supervision of Wage Pilots when assigned to scheduled flight.
This position also coordinates with maintenance personnel for aircraft cleaning and post maintenance return to service.
The incumbent of this position will have to travel both in and out of state as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to work well with people. Knowledge of Federal Aviation regulations. Possess piloting skills necessary to safely operate the department’s turboprop, piston and other assigned aircraft in all phases of flight. Be able to complete all training required by the department in a period of time stipulated by management. Ability to formulate correspondence and interpret state law in assigned administrative duties.
Additional Considerations
Hold an airline transport pilot certificate with an airplane multi-engine land rating; 2500 hours total time; 500 hours multi-engine; 500 hours turbine; flight instructor certificate with airplane single and multi-engine instrument airplane ratings; Beechcraft King Air experience; Rockwell Collins Pro-Line 21 experience; and a bachelor’s degree.
