The Residential Services Department of the Campus Life Division is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for all participants, staff, and visitors at WWRC. Residential Services Department staff are responsible for providing a comfortable learning environment through targeted supports and interventions for residential participants that maximize the opportunity to succeed at WWRC and as independent citizens. The Campus Life Division provides relevant programs, classes, experiences, and services to enable participants to achieve successful employment and optimal independence.

Job Duties:

WWRC is seeking a Campus Life Associate—Dorm who will engage with clients and other rehabilitation team members to create a safe, clean, and supportive residential and recreational experience throughout the entire Campus Life Division environment. The employee will promote and maintain a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for living, learning, and fostering the interdisciplinary team approach. This position will also provide appropriate documentation according to center/departmental standards and perform the other program duties as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle and occasionally transporting clients.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

A valid VA driver's license is required.

Knowledge of theory and techniques utilized in behavior modification, crisis intervention, and problem solving.

Knowledge of confidentiality and boundary issues

Knowledge of safety awareness in a residential/dormitory setting

Knowledge of the recreation hall environment is needed for coverage as needed.

Skills/Abilities:

Skills in assessing individual and group needs, as well as the ability to plan and implement programs to meet those needs, are essential.

Good oral and written communication, computer, and organization/time management skills

Ability to relate positively to people with disabilities and knowledge of disabilities served.

Ability to foster a safe, clean, and supportive environment promoting positive social, interpersonal, and self-management skills, encouraging opportunities to learn needed skills to promote and enhance personal independence.

Ability to assess environmental factors and safety hazards while conducting day-to-day operations.

Ability to foster an interdisciplinary team approach.

Additional Considerations:

Training or experience in the health and human service-related field working with persons with disabilities, particularly in a therapeutic residential and recreational setting. Knowledge or experience with medication administration is a plus.

Special Instructions:

This position is designated to provide first aid, CPR, and AED only as a collateral duty to routine work assignments, responding solely to injuries resulting from workplace incidents, generally at the location where the incident occurred, until emergency personnel arrive on the scene. The incumbent understands that pre-exposure hepatitis B vaccination is not being provided, but that post-exposure hepatitis B vaccination will be provided, and they will complete annual bloodborne pathogens training by the OSHA standard.

o This has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2-1201.1.
o A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the finalist candidate.
