The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking highly motivated, analytical, and energetic individual to join our Information Technology team as a Jr. Cloud Data Engineer. We’re looking for someone with a passion for problem-solving, data integrity, and applying best practices to real-world challenges. The position will augment data engineering teams to drive the agency’s data management efforts across key data disciplines, including data governance, data engineering, data storage, and data consumption. Additionally, this role will collaborate with business units to develop data products, processes, and procedures on the cloud in support of their mission; and support data-centric decision-making, provide process support across all business units to achieve enterprise goals, and implement strategies for data management processes, best practices, and standards through tools and techniques aligned to Agencies technology roadmap.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Assisting in building and maintaining cloud-native data pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Applying data management practices to promote quality, standardization, and proper data use.
• Supporting data product development, participate in data profiling, cleansing, and validation to improve data quality by applying data engineering practices across data stores for better data consumption.
• Helping implement and monitor data quality rules and validation checks across ingestion and processing workflows.
• Contributing to the documentation of data processes, models, and system architecture.
• Collaborating with data owners and stewards to ensure data policies and standards are followed.
• Developing and maintaining documentation for data processes, governance controls, and technical implementations.
• Learning and applying modern tools and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Snowflake, Python, Power BI etc.) in real world scenarios.
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience with data engineering, cloud computing (preferably AWS), or data analysis.
• Experience applying data governance concepts to enhance data security and privacy leveraging tokenization and anonymization techniques.
• Experience with Cloud Native services (preferred AWS), Reporting tools (preferred Power BI), Scripting (preferred Python), and data analysis using scripting.
• Ability to demonstrate data driven story telling with visualization techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across technical and business teams.
• A strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
Additional Considerations
• Exposure and experience with Agile Delivery methodology.
• Industry certification on data management or cloud-based technologies.
