The Science Museum of Virginia is looking for a versatile Museum Generalist to be the heartbeat of our daily operations and help bring our mission to life!
As a Museum Generalist, you’ll support all aspects of the museum’s day-to-day functions—from opening and closing procedures to admissions processing—and play a key role in training and developing our amazing part-time staff. You’ll also get to lead engaging educational programs both on-site and through outreach, assist with managing our event calendar, operate the iconic Dome, and assist with various administrative and financial tasks. Plus, you’ll be front and center during special events, ensuring every guest has an unforgettable visit.

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and effective interactions. Candidates must have the ability to manage financial tasks within accounting functions accurately. Proficiency in mastering computerized admission systems and additional software programs is essential, along with the capability to use spreadsheet and word processing applications accurately and appropriately. The role requires the ability to work successfully with individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds within an educational environment. Reliability and honesty are critical traits, as is the ability to multitask efficiently with minimal supervision. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills and communicate effectively and efficiently with other staff members.
Additional Considerations
Prior experience working in a museum is a plus.
