Job Duties
Supervises a specialized caseload of high-risk inmates and probationers; performs investigations, casework and administrative services. Effectively applies evidence based practices including effective communication skills, principles, and techniques to promote internal change for the probationer. Collaborates with probationer, district, and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans. Make home and community contacts in accord with case needs and supervision plans; prepare Pre-sentence Investigations, sentencing guidelines, and other reports as assigned in a timely manner; testify and provide sentencing recommendations to the court/attorney. Emphasis on coaching and mentoring of all line probation officers, covering vacancies, providing training for new staff, and reviewing presentence reports for the district.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have demonstrated experience preparing formal written reports and presenting them to external stakeholders such as courts, law enforcement agencies, and community partners. They must have experience conducting interviews to gather detailed case information and working directly with adult probationers in areas such as reentry planning, program management, and supervision. A strong understanding of the adult criminal justice system, case management practices, and counseling or behavioral intervention techniques is essential. Candidates must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of individuals, including probationers, colleagues, community agency staff, and the public. Strong time management and organizational skills are required, along with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Applicants must also have experience facilitating offender treatment groups and prior work experience within a probation and parole district office environment.
Additional Considerations
Advanced knowledge, training, or coursework in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Science, Counseling or related field or equivalent applicable experience.
