Job Duties
The SAU Operations Supervisor will assist the Deputy State Coordinator for the Commonwealth Coordination Bureau, Operational Coordination Division Director, and SAU Manager to provide a comprehensive emergency communications and warning service for the Commonwealth of Virginia in an autonomous environment without direct supervision. Serve as the primary Integrated Public Alert and Warning point of contact and maintain relationships with local, state and federal stakeholders. Implement State Emergency Operations Plans and procedures, initiate response activities and allocation of state resources during emergencies and disasters in coordination with other operational staff. Implement and monitor mission assignment execution to state, federal, local, and private sector organizations during emergency/disaster response. Manage and assist with implementation of State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Situational Awareness Unit (SAU) programs and coordinate agency emergency field response activities in support of incident/emergency management. Assure communications programs and activities are continuously in a state of readiness and executed appropriately. Supervise the activities of SAU personnel during assigned shifts and assists with development of weekly training. Serves as the primary resource for assigned staff for the most complex situations. In coordination with the SAU Leads, develop staffing schedules for SAU employees and assures expected staffing levels are maintained. Serves as technical expert on systems and technology. Performs the duties of the SAU Manager in his/her absence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of standard communication procedures and equipment
- Supervision and training Skills.
- Knowledge of geographical areas of the state.
- Knowledge of relevant Federal, State and local laws.
- Knowledge of Codes and regulations
- Knowledge of policies and procedures of record keeping including the maintenance and security of communications reports
- Knowledge of principles and resources for dealing with hazardous materials.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with strong coordination and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated abilities to read and interpret maps, policies, procedures, and regulations
- Ability to analyze data in order to make decisions and maintain situational awareness across the Commonwealth.
- Ability to operate public safety emergency communications equipment.
- Ability to work in a team environment with all authority levels of local, state, federal, private sector and volunteer groups
Additional Considerations
- Experience working in an emergency communications center, operations center, military
watch center or public safety environment .
- Demonstrated experience leading or serving as a watch analyst within an emergency
response organization
- Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) level B Certification

The salary for this position is negotiable up to the maximum hiring range listed in this posting. Offers will not be made outside of the hiring range. This is a restricted position due to the funding source.
