Job Duties

The Office of Licensure and Certification is seeking a Medical Facilities Inspector Supervisor. This position is currently offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus and 80 hours of front-loaded annual leave time with a one-year written agreement.

The Medical Facilities Inspector Supervisor for the Long Term Care Team formally supervises inspectors/surveyors to ensure that inspections/surveys or reviews of health care facilities are performed in accordance with state and federal regulations. May conduct inspections and investigations directly, as needed. Characteristic activities include supervises inspections/surveys and complaint investigation activities, prepares inspector work schedules, reviews inspection/survey reports, address regulations and survey process questions for provider applicants, verifies applications meet regulatory requirements, manages database reflecting changes in licensed and certified health care facilities as well as provides technical assistance to providers. Will require travel.

1. Performance Management
• Holds staff meetings or in-service training programs to keep staff informed and receive feedback on inspection/survey activities
• Periodically meets with staff members to provide technical assistance, answer questions or resolve problems
• Conducts performance evaluations
• Submits performance evaluations to supervisor for review prior to established deadline
2. Work Assignments/Schedules
• Establishes accurate reoccurring schedule and work assignment plans
3. Confirmation of Inspection/Survey Packages
• Reviews inspector's reports and facility's plan of correction for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
• Responsible for a critical analysis of non-routine reports to include complaint investigations and
inspections/surveys that result in potential adverse action due to immediate and serious threat to the
health and safety of patients
• Assures that Medicare/Medicaid requirements and State licensure regulations have been applied
accurately and consistently
4. Inspection/Survey Oversight & Regulatory Compliance
• May observe, conduct and/or participate in onsite inspections/surveys as required
• Provides technical assistance to certification applicants that is timely and accurate
5. Other Duties
• May be required to perform other duties; may include functions in support of an emergency declaration
• May be required to adjust work hours, location and job duties and participate in training to meet public health business needs

Minimum Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of quality-of-care issues, health care operations, and the management and
delivery of healthcare systems.
• Extensive experience in interpreting and consistently applying laws and regulations coupled with an
understanding of consequences for violation.
• Management skills in planning, analysis, scheduling, team building and providing customer service.
• Extensive knowledge of MS Office Suite
• Ability to supervise a diverse workforce, which may be dispersed throughout the state in home
based offices.
• Experience overseeing survey processes, timely completion of inspections and preparing effective responses for dispute resolution


• If working in Long Term Care (LTC) and/or Complaint unit, must obtain Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) Certification within 12 months of hire date.
All MFI’s must obtain medical clearance for fit testing in accordance with OSHA Respiratory Protection
Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) [Ref.2] within 90 days of hire date and annually except for Complaint Unit

Additional Considerations

• Experience in the major studies of health care.
• Prior medical facilities inspector (MFI) experience.
• Knowledge of health care compliance regulations.
• Prior supervisory experience
• Clinical experience in home health or hospice.
• Active license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
