Job Duties

The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) is excited to offer a competitive opportunity to serve as an IT Lead/Agency Information Technology Resource (AITR) at the Office of the Governor.

The IT Lead / Agency Information Technology Resource (AITR) plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation, security, and strategic management of the agency’s IT infrastructure.

This position combines hands-on technical expertise with administrative oversight and serves as the main point of contact for IT services, procurement, and coordination with external IT vendors.

Key responsibilities include managing daily IT operations, overseeing access request approvals to maintain security compliance, reviewing infrastructure billing to ensure financial accuracy, and providing essential support to address staffing gaps within the Governor’s Office.

The IT Lead / AITR also ensures agency-wide compliance with state IT policies and represents the agency in IT strategic planning and projects.

This position is essential to maintaining operational continuity, safeguarding IT security, and aligning technology initiatives with organizational goals. Failure to fill this role may result in increased operational inefficiencies, security vulnerabilities, billing inaccuracies, and overburdened staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting customers with desktop technical issues.

Experience tracking OS upgrades and assisting with tracking and scheduling.

Demonstrated ability to review and make recommendations for technical solution proposals as they apply to proposed projects and procurements.

Strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to develop and present complex material effectively to a variety of audiences (technical and non-technical).

Excellent problem solving, research, and follow-up skills.

Proven experience managing IT projects or strategic initiatives.

5+ years of progressive IT experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or IT coordinator role.

Deep knowledge of enterprise IT systems, cybersecurity practices, and infrastructure planning.

Additional Considerations

Familiarity with VITA policies, procedures.

Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, PMP, Microsoft, Cisco, or ITIL.
