About the Agency:

The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Fort Pickett is a medium-sized, Federal Installation of 41,000 acres, 2,000,000 SF of buildings and numerous ranges and is operated by the Virginia Army National Guard (VaARNG) for training Reserve Component, active Army, and other unit services. The Directorate of Public Works is responsible for the operation and maintenance of real property at the Maneuver Training Center, Fort Pickett, and The State Military Reservation located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Purpose of Position:

The incumbent of this position will provide support in implementing the operation and maintenance plan for the Maneuver Training Center (MTC)/Virginia National Guard facilities in assisting the Virginia Army National Guard in sustaining readiness sand fulfilling our Federal and State missions. This position is responsible for maintenance, repair, and installation operations of Improved & unimproved grounds, earthen structures, grounds maintenance equipment operations and grounds maintenance trades work for the MTC, Fort Pickett, and other VAARNG Facilities.

We are hiring a total of five (5) part-time Grounds Maintenance Workers. These positions are part-time and ineligible for state benefits. These positions are limited to working 1500 hours per year.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to operate a zero-turn lawnmower responsibly and safely;

Knowledge of improved and unimproved grounds construction and maintenance methods & practices;

Knowledge of light engineering, agricultural and grounds maintenance equipment operations;

Knowledge of safety and OSHA procedures and regulations;

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

Considerable experience with grounds maintenance equipment operations and grounds maintenance trades work is required;

Ability to carry, lift and place into position equipment weighing 50 pounds while wearing protective/safety equipment, in all weather conditions;

Experience with snow and ice removal;

Valid Virginia Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.

Additional Considerations

Virginia Pesticide Applicator Licensure preferred.
