Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Program Support Technician for the Office of Weights and Measures in the Division of Consumer Protection. This position provides administrative support to the Office of Weights and Measures by handling administrative projects, fiscal and purchasing functions, coordinating registration programs, maintaining files, records, and reference materials, and complaint intake. Duties include point of contact for all program procurement and billing, including processing purchases in eVA and using a small purchase charge card; routine administrative duties for the program including answering telephones and emails from the public, intake of complaints, travel vouchers, vehicle mileage, maintaining files; registration and licensing of cotton handlers, service agencies and technicians, and public weighmasters. This position involves considerable interaction via telephone and/or email with Virginia’s weights and measures industries and the general public to communicate program services and regulatory requirements. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth’s telework policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures as well as basic bookkeeping principles involving billing and purchasing. Exceptional computer skills and proficiency using all standard software applications, specifically MS Office (word processing, spreadsheets, database). Ability to communicate effectively with the public and to work with fellow employees in a professional and courteous manner; to prepare written reports and correspondence; to purchase and procure supplies and equipment; to maintain a variety of filing systems; to interpret and understand policies and procedures; to enter and maintain a database of technical information; process registrations; and to work with minimal supervision. Exceptional customer service and oral/written communication skills to include complaint intake. High School Diploma or equivalent required

Additional Considerations

Current or recent experience supporting regulatory or compliance programs and/or supporting staff working in a state government office, to include state procurement procedures, current/recent experience working in a similar type of position that involves complaint intake, accounting and billing principles; database maintenance; and heavy customer service preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
