The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS), Division of Family Services (DFS) is currently seeking a Youth Services Supervisor. This position manages and directs the development and implementation of Chafee/Independent Living and the Education and Training Voucher services for older youth currently and formally in Foster Care; provide oversight of these programs' policy development; review the development of relevant legislation and regulations; responsible for strategic and operation planning for program implementation, and overall program development and grant management. This position will also provide direct support to the local department of social services (LDSS).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Experience in administration of human services, adult/child welfare services, and quality assurance activities.
  • Knowledge of child welfare programs, specifically foster care, preferably with the older youth population.
  • Results Focus: Develop and monitor outcomes and fiscal reports to insure that LDSS are appropriately and effectively utilizing allocations.
  • Customer Service: Support LDSS best practice through analysis, interpretation and development program guidance and work processes.
  • Leadership: Assist with unit work projects and develop ability to back-up Program Manager.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing to a broad base of constituents.
  • Personal Effectiveness: Ability to plan, prioritize, manage and complete work assignments within set timeframes.

Additional Considerations

  • Previous experience working in a local Department of Social Services.
  • Experience/knowledge of the National Youth in Transition Database (NYTD) survey.
  • Experience/knowledge in the use of Chafee Funding/Educational Training Vouchers.
