Job Duties
• Provide general electrical service and complete daily projects.
• Checks all lighting and rides all elevators in assigned areas repair or replace as needed inoperable, broken, or missing devices, covers, and lamps.
• Informs the Senior Electrician of any parts to be purchased
• Provide on-call service
• Uses knowledge of electrical test equipment and troubleshooting skills to repair electrical, fire alarm, and HVAC systems to rectify any problems and return equipment to normal function.
• Performs preventative maintenance on all electrical systems on the Museum campus
• Install or relocate Fire alarm and security devices as directed by the Electrical Systems Manager
• Works with exhibition designers, lighting department, and installations department to install conduit, wire, devices, and lighting in all gallery installations.
• Daily inspection of the lighting, and panel clearances in 1936, and South Wings
• Assists other members of the electrical staff as required.
• Supports the museum's commitment to providing quality customer service to visitors throughout Virginia and beyond by applying professional talents, knowledge, and skills to the museum campus and statewide partnership network, as appropriate and on location as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend both verbal and written directions.
• Ability to work from drawings and verbal construction directions. Must be able to make decisions on repairs and provide information to the Manager concerning repairs and maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems and repair them with minor assistance
• Must possess an Electrical Journeymans license or be able to obtain one within one year of hire.
Additional Considerations
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies typically obtained through the completion of a technical/vocational program or equivalent level of practical experience.
**Designated/Essential Staff- May be required to perform other duties related to security, safety, and health as assigned. (i.e.training) May be required to assist the museum or state government during inclement weather or in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor or the Director of the Museum.
