Job Duties
The Extension Assistant, Small Ruminant Mobile Processing Unit Coordinator is responsible for
managing and operating VSU's Mobile Processing Unit, preparing the unit and associated hardware for processing, instruction, assisting in setting up producer co-ops, and promoting marketing opportunities for VA's sheep and goat producers. The position provides technical and organizational support for extension programs associated with the VSU Mobile Slaughter Processing Unit and on-campus facilities. Provides small ruminant (sheep and meat goat) and livestock production and management expertise and works closely with VSU's small ruminant specialist, research faculty, and VCE agents to develop small ruminant (meat-goats and sheep) educational program activities that will enhance the sustainability of Virginia's agriculture in a multi-county area.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in animal science, meat science, or an agriculture-related field.
Experience/understanding of butchery in rural settings.
Considerable knowledge in small ruminant processing and value-added production.
Valid driver's license with a proven driving record.
Ability to work effectively with low-income, limited resources, and minority and ethnically diverse audiences.
Ability to write specialized grant proposals.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance of commercial vehicles and auxiliary diesel generators.
Skill in troubleshooting mechanical and operational problems associated with motor vehicles and generators.
Skills in operating commercial vehicles, industrial and farm equipment.
Ability to perform overnight travel in accordance with university/state travel regulations.
Additional Considerations
Two or more years' experience working with small ruminants in a commercial organization or educational institution is preferred.
Ability to drive a 40 fl. trailer or CDL preferred
