Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.

Manages professional accounting work of considerable difficulty in the operation of the general accounting division of the agency's Office of Financial Management.

Major duties include: reconciliations and compliance, preparing management reports; resolving accounting errors; continuous review of accounting systems and recommendations for improvements; assessment of workloads and staffing assignments;

Provides supervision of senior fiscal professional(s), technicians, and support personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and knowledge of governmental accounting principles, policies, procedures, and standards

Knowledge and experience with business standards for reconciliations

Knowledge and experience with generally acceptable accounting practices (GAAP)

Experience serving in a supervisory capacity, providing performance management and development of staff

Ability to interpret regulations, policies, and procedures, and develop and implement changes and new processes into operational functions

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access and Word, and experience using database applications

Additional Considerations

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
