Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a CIT Crisis Diversion Coordinator. This position will provide leadership, support, and coordination to Virginia’s behavioral health crisis system with particular attention to Crisis Receiving and Stabilization Centers, Crisis Receiving Centers, and CIT Assessment Sites, as well as acting as a liaison between local behavioral health stakeholders and criminal justice stakeholders to support collaborative partnerships. This position will also provide support to localities with a Crisis Intervention Team and the Virginia CIT Coalition as a subject matter expert, while providing administrative support as needed to enhance the overall work of the Commonwealth’s CIT programs. In addition, this position will provide leadership and oversight of existing and developing Sites in these programs including but not specifically limited to: the collection, management, analysis and reporting of program data, technical assistance and programmatic support to community initiatives, while serving as a liaison with public and private healthcare entities, behavioral health organizations, and other Commonwealth of Virginia government bodies in furtherance of the state programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of state and local government criminal justice and human services operations that serve individuals in need of behavioral health, substance use, and/or developmental and intellectual disability related crises. Detailed experience in and knowledge of the criminal justice systems in Virginia.
• Knowledge of evidence-based and best practice intervention processes for individuals with mental illness, substance abuse & addiction, and/or intellectual or developmental disabilities at risk for involvement or involved in the criminal justice or crisis system.
• Knowledge of and experience with working in or with a Crisis Intervention Team.
• Knowledge of and experience working with a CIT Assessment Site and/or a crisis receiving center program.
• Ability to inspire a shared vision with a wide range of individuals or groups and to foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups (agencies, individuals, legislators, local providers, private healthcare entities, etc.) throughout the criminal justice and human services systems.
• Ability to conceptualize and manage programs that require system-wide integration.
• Ability to oversee large grants, contracts, and budgets.
• Ability to collect, manage and interpret data from multiple data sources.
• Ability to assess and report programmatic, policy and legislative impact from multiple data sources.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Additional Considerations

• Experience working with both criminal justice and mental health agencies.
• Experience working with a CIT program.
• Experience with mentoring, training, and/or curriculum development.
• Experience performing program reviews and/or providing oversight of programs/initiatives
• Demonstrated experience with the continuum of services and supports for individuals in need of behavioral health or developmental disability crisis care.
