About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Classification/Compensation Analyst Supervisor in our Human Resources Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Supervising a staff of professional and technical employees in the functional area of classification and compensation for both civilian and sworn personnel.
• Serving as the subject matter expert in the areas of job analysis, compensation analysis, equity studies and the Department’s Salary Administration Plan (SAP).
• Providing consultation and interpretation regarding Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) policy, Department General Orders and the Department’s SAP.
• Leading in the research, analysis, development, and implementation of classification and compensation related structures, programs, services, or projects.
• Developing and delivering classification and compensation related training programs and participating in New Employee Orientation.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining process documentation as well as identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

•Considerable knowledge of:
• Human resource concepts, principles and best practices in job analysis, classification and compensation.
• Applicable Federal and State laws, rules, regulations and/or statutes to include (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
• Supervisory principles, practices and procedures.

•Skill in:
• Using personal computers and Microsoft Office applications at an intermediate level.
•Demonstrated ability to:
• Supervise staff.
• Analyze data and reach logical conclusions.
• Use computer technology and software applications to gather, model, report, and depict data.
• Conduct research, analyze information and data, and present findings in concise format.
• Evaluate and analyze salary data.
• Conduct and respond to salary surveys.
• Write qualitative and quantitative reports of findings.
• Prepare and conduct training programs.
• Address difficult situations in a constructive manner.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Interpret and apply human resource policies, procedures, regulations and statutes.
• Determine the FLSA exemption status of employees.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse individuals and groups.

•Ability to:
• Develop strategies to improve customer services, program efficiency and effectiveness to balance multiple priorities, lead meetings, make effective business decisions and meet project-based deadlines.
• Apply Good to Great initiatives and streamline workflows.
•Directly related experience in human resources, public or business administration, or a related field.
•Experience in supervising employees.
•Progressively responsible experience in classification and compensation to include job analysis, pay equity, and organizational analysis.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional Considerations

• PHR/SHRM or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred.
