Job Duties
The Office of the State Inspector General (OSIG) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Data Analyst. The purpose of the position is to transfer raw data into meaningful information using analytics applications, statistical techniques, data-oriented programming languages, and visualization software. Duties of this position include: collaborating with business units and external clients to to help understand their data set challenges and assist with their visualization needs; determining data requirements, characteristics, and values; deciding how large, complex data sets will be collected, organized, and prepared for analysis; and applying statistical analysis, advanced analytics, to discover and interpret trends, patterns and relationships that address business problems and inform policy decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field that includes data analytics initiatives leading to useful insights and improved business performance. Demonstrated ability to organize and conduct data analytics projects; to extract and transform small and large, multi-structured datasets in order to analyze various business functions, trends, and key indicators using methods; to develop problem-solving insights and identify business opportunities; and to present findings in a brief, clear, and precise manner, tailoring technically complex messages to the needs and interests of various audiences. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Knowledge and understanding of technical areas: operating systems, application systems, query languages, systems analysis, and development methodologies. Experience in the structure and functionality of the IT databases concerning its uses and developing queries. Knowledge of structured analysis principles and techniques. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple, simultaneous data projects to meet deadlines; to work successfully with clients and OSIG staff. Demonstrated ability to develop actionable insights from in-depth data research and the application of statistics, and analytics. High school graduate or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
Considerable experience with statistical packages, predictive modeling, trend forecasting, and report creation; and with data visualization software, database systems, and business intelligence applications.
