Job Duties
Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking a Senior Investment Officer – Private Equity (Partnerships and Co-Investments), to join the Private Assets team, one of three investment units, working alongside Public Assets and Portfolio Solutions Group. The Private Equity team plays a crucial role in helping VRS achieve the Fund’s actuarial return target. The private equity portfolio is composed of both partnership investments and direct co-investments. This role is essential in realizing VRS’ mission of securing the financial future of public sector employees.
• Support the Program Director and Senior Investment Professionals with management and oversight of the Private Equity investment portfolio.
• Work with the Private Equity team to perform due diligence tasks such as performance analysis, risk assessment, financial modeling and research.
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend private equity investment opportunities.
• Provide decision-making support for senior team members, both in the private equity partnership portfolio and the private equity co-investment portfolio.
• Responsible for special projects relating to the overall VRS portfolio.
• Continue education and training for the continued development of related knowledge and skills.
Minimum Qualifications
• 5 years of experience in private equity assets
• Advanced capabilities in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Process mindset and interest in solving complex problems
• Ability to work well across various investments and investment support groups, and support a collaborative environment
• Demonstrates intellectual curiosity, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, team orientation, and commitment to excellence
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Additional Considerations
• 8 years of experience in private equity assets, preferred
• MBA and/or CFA, preferred

This position follows the VRS hybrid work model which currently requires three days onsite and two days remote; the selected candidate must be able to work in the office any day of the week as required by the manager. Summer schedule: currently allows two days onsite and three days remote.
Investment due diligence performed on external investment managers and other related entities will include both on-site and virtual visits; therefore, out-of-state travel is expected.
