The Science Museum of Virginia is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Exhibit Maintenance Technician to support the activation, maintenance, and repair of our interactive exhibits and museum fixtures.

Our Exhibit Department is committed to providing the best experience possible for our guests and you’ll play a key part in achieving that goal. Working with the team, you’ll help ensure that every exhibit is not only functional but also engaging, educational, and exciting for all who visit. This will include troubleshooting and repairing exhibits to ensure they are always in excellent working condition. You will also assist with the setup and breakdown of traveling exhibits, ensuring everything transitions smoothly and seamlessly.

Please note that this is a part-time position and will be scheduled for 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested applicants must apply at http://jobs.virginia.gov/

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of (or readiness to learn) Windows, Raspberry Pi, and other computer systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and manage start-up and shutdown procedures for the technology that powers Museum exhibits. A solid understanding of repair methods is essential, as well as proficiency in using power and hand tools. Familiarity with construction materials such as wood, plastics, metals, and paint, along with related fabrication techniques, is required. A passion for learning about emerging technologies used in exhibits at the Science Museum is key. Candidate must be proactive and energetic, with a readiness to stay on the move throughout the day. Must be attentive to exhibit cleanliness and appearance, respond quickly to cleaning needs, and be comfortable using a variety of cleaning products while following all safety protocols. Ability to perform a variety of tasks, to include frequent lifting and moving of heavy objects (50 pounds or greater); frequent standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching required. Must be available to work a rotating weekend schedule, along with occasional evenings and holidays.

Additional Considerations

Experience in a museum exhibits environment is a plus.
