Job Duties

To enhance public safety and increase post incarceration success by preparing individuals under the care of the Virginia Department of Corrections to join the workforce. Through a continuum of employment readiness services, including collaboration with community stakeholders, individuals will receive necessary training, education and resources to secure meaningful employment.

Supervise the VADOC Workforce Development Team statewide, ensuring the workforce readiness curriculum is aligned with best practices and effectively facilitated at all facilities. Ensure the DOC is leading the way with workforce initiatives and best practices to assist those in the criminal justice system with developing skills to enter the workforce and navigate the hiring process. Develop workforce grants and manage the grants effectively to increase programs/services at a reduced to cost to the Department. Oversee all workforce pilots or initiatives. Ensure correctional centers have operational reentry employment and resource centers equipped with necessary tools to link inmates to workforce preparation and technology to improve post release success. Oversee the Virginia Bonding Program statewide. Supervise the Community Workforce Team responsible for connecting those under VADOC supervision with workforce resources, employment opportunities, and community partners. Stay up to date regarding staff training needs and link staff to relevant training opportunities. Review all workforce data input and summaries to ensure the Department is appropriately capturing data. Conduct onsite reviews of the workforce preparation services to offer coaching and guidance.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have demonstrated experience supervising staff located at multiple sites and performing coaching as necessary. Must be able to serve as liaison between agency personnel, offenders, and workforce development service providers. Must be experienced in project development, implementation and management, including developing appropriate marketing materials and relevant training experiences. Possesses good skills in reading, writing, math, listening, and making public presentations. Must have the skills to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must have demonstrated skill in developing partnerships between DOC, service agencies and employers. Technology skills to ensure virtual communication.

Additional Considerations

Global Career Development Facilitator credential issued by the Center for Credentialing and Education or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Work experience in marketing and project management. Experience working as a workforce development professional providing employability services to clients. Advanced education with a focus on career counseling, rehabilitation counseling, occupational, psychology, social work, or other related human service field.
