Job Duties

The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education (EESE) within the School of Education at Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education (F0472) position. We seek candidates that have expertise in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction for Exceptional Learners as well as experience in P-12 school settings as a Special Education Teacher or Special Education Administrator. Minimum Qualifications

 

  1.  An earned doctorate/terminal degree (Ph.D./Ed.D.) in Special Education or related field from an accredited (U.S.) or certified (international) university.
  2. Experience in P-12 school settings.
  3. Current state licensure or certification in teaching special education (candidates who are licensed in other states can submit to the Virginia Department of Education’s licensure department to obtain a postgraduate professional license for the Commonwealth of Virginia).
  4. Ability to teach a full range of special education courses.
  5. Experience advising students and building authentic learning experiences to support student development and career aspirations.
  6.  Active involvement in professional associations and/or in partnerships in the field.
  7. Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and negotiation skills.

Additional Considerations

  1. Demonstrated evidence of inclusive teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level that builds engaging, relevant, and authentic learning experiences for students.
  2. Active involvement in professional associations and/or in partnerships in the field.
  3. Demonstrated evidence of established or developing research agenda that informs teaching and practice in the Special Education field.
  4. Prior college, university, or professional association experience.
  5. A strong diversity and social justice orientation.
  6. Teaching experience related to special education, internships, social justice and equity, teaching and learning, and research design.
  7. Past experience developing collaborative partnerships with campus units and organizations.
