Job Duties:

The mission of the Finance Division is to provide exceptional customer service, build strong partnerships with DARS and the DSAs while creating innovative ways to deliver support to our partners and stakeholders, promoting excellence in our work product by fostering a team of high professional while adhering to policies and procedures and upholding our roles as prudent financial stewards of public funds.

DARS is seeking to fill a General Accounting/Accounts Receivable Accountant to serve as the General Accounting/Accounts Receivable Accountant in the General Accounting unit, responsible for the timely entry of daily deposits, chart of accounts maintenance uploading journals, and reconciliations.

The position will also assist with financial reporting and serve as the systems administrator for DARS' financial system. Additionally, the position will perform other tasks as assigned, serve as backup to other team members, and train across functional areas.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cash Receipts- Daily Deposits.
  • General Ledger Journal Entry Upload.
  • Chart of Accounts Maintenance.
  • Reconciliations- weekly and monthly.
  • Miscellaneous Duties - Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.


Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Experience working with automated accounting systems, accounting reconciliation.
  • Experience with Excel, data manipulation, financial reporting, and chart of accounts maintenance.
  • Experience in accounting, finance or business.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of government financial accounting.
  • Knowledge of state government policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of accounting/finance processing software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. 
  • Working knowledge of fixed assets and lease practices.


Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills.
  • Forward thinking skills; ability to implement corrective actions to resolve issues, ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform as both an individual contributor and within a team to positively impact the General Accounting unit.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with state systems, state accounting policies, procedures and regulations, specifically Cardinal.
