Job Duties

This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the Department of Motor Vehicles Occupant Protection Grant for a 1-year period ending September 30, 2026. The availability of funding is scheduled for review before the grant expiration date and renewed. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds. Funding for this position has been renewed for the last 15 years.

The Child Passenger Safety Coordinator is responsible for the maintenance and growth of the VDH child passenger safety programs and initiatives towards the reduction of vehicular-related injuries and fatalities for children. This includes a robust network or seat check stations, healthcare technical assistance education, and providing subject matter expertise to the public, local, and state partners. Characteristic duties include: program development, planning, monitoring, and analysis, grant management, public health education to public and partners, research and proposals for impacting service delivery, regulations and legislation.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Thorough knowledge of program management and development, service integration strategies
2. Thorough knowledge of grant management, budget management, and reporting.
3. Thorough knowledge of strategies and mediums to effectively present data and information, experience with public speaking and group facilitation, both in-person and virtually
4. Experience in using analytical principles to evaluate and inform strategies
5. Possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
6. Ability work independently to develop workplans and achieve results
7. Possess strong service leadership, customer service, and interpersonal skills
8. Possess skills in both front-line, direct service engagement and strategic, long-term planning with the ability to move between both on a regular basis

Additional Considerations

1. Training in Public Health or Social Work principles
2. Experience with child passenger safety or occupant protection
3. Currently certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician
