Job Duties

To coordinate, manage, and supervise the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of statewide training programs specific to the search and rescue program. To serve as the Deputy ESF-9 Coordinator during activations of the VEST and Deputy Search and Rescue Coordinator under routine operations to include rotations as the Search and Rescue Duty Officer, and on-scene response to search and rescue emergencies as necessary.

All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official EWP.

Minimum Qualifications

- Ability to perform as a Search Mission Coordinator for ground search operations.
- Considerable experience in responding and operating in support of search, rescue, and recovery efforts for lost persons to include operating within federal and state SAR constructs.
- Knowledge and experience in operating with myriad interagency SAR organizations including the DoD, National Guard, Civil Air patrol, national/state SAR teams, and the US Coast Guard.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Windows-based operating systems, and GIS based systems such as ArcGIS, CalTopo / SARTopo, and Google Earth.
- Skill in using networked personal computers and emergency information systems.
- Demonstrate the ability to plan and prioritize competing tasks and deadlines and manage multiple projects effectively
- Takes decisive action under pressure, consistently demonstrating sound judgment and aligning decisions with VDEM’s mission in high-stress situations.
- Skill to build rapport, consensus and collaboration among diverse public safety professionals and various stakeholders.
- Ability to lead, motivate and coordinate the training of diverse public safety professionals.
-Effectively prioritizes assistance requests, allocates resources with precision, and leads response operations across governmental and private sectors during emergencies and disasters
- Must have ability to assist in loading and unloading emergency equipment.
- Working knowledge of adult training and exercise methods, curriculum design, needs assessment, and evaluation methodology.

The salary for this position is negotiable up to the maximum hiring range listed in this posting. Offers will not be made outside of the hiring range. This is a restricted position due to the funding source.
