Job Duties

Aspiring professionals in public policy, executive management, business, and related fields are invited to apply to our 2026 Internship Program at the Office of the Attorney General, based in Richmond, Virginia.

Each summer, the OAG sponsors an eight-week program, geared towards providing students with a unique, hands-on experience and a realistic preview of work. The 2026 program runs from Monday, June 1 to Friday, July 24.

Program Highlights:

• Build lasting professional relationships through networking opportunities with peers and attorneys across the agency.

• Hands-on experience working alongside attorneys and professional staff in a public service environment.

• Mentorship and guidance from experienced attorneys and staff committed to supporting your career growth.

• Contribute to meaningful projects that support the mission of the Virginia Office of the Attorney General.

• Gain exposure to careers in law, public policy, government, and administration.

Additional Information:

• Location: This internship is a full-time, in-person, unpaid internship based in Richmond, Virginia.

• Parking: Access to an agency parking deck will be provided.

Minimum Qualifications

• Professionalism in behavior, communication, and reliability.

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program

• Basic understanding of fundamental business processes

• Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong analytical and research abilities.

• U.S. Citizenship required.

• Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Additional Considerations

• To be considered for the 2026 Summer Internship Program, students must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, full or part-time. Students accepted into the internship program must be able to participate in the full eight-week program and exhibit a genuine interest in working for state government.

• Interested candidates must submit a cover letter detailing your area of interest, current resume, and academic transcript.

• Candidates who have not yet completed their first semester of school should include a statement indicating that their transcript will be provided once available.
