**Candidates must reside in the service area which includes South Boston, Halifax County, Danville, and Pittsylvania County.**

Job Duties

Monitor and audit accounts and activities to ensure employer compliance with state and federal UI tax laws.

Travel within designated service area to conduct on-site audits; follow established protocol to notify employer, coordinate logistics, complete audit, and document results and conduct follow-up work; and ensure activities comply with state unemployment tax laws and meet Tax Performance System (TPS) requirements.

Determine UI tax liability for new and existing employers and individuals providing remuneration services; verify proper wages so that UI benefits and taxes may be accurately determined; and contact employers when claim wages, financial information, and/or reports are missing or incorrect. Initiate actions to collect delinquent taxes and quarterly tax reports; conduct investigations and skip tracing to locate responsible parties and assets; secure bankruptcy information to protect agency interests; prepare written Liability Determination letters; and perform tax enforcement actions, including; authorizing tax liens to seize bank accounts and other accounts receivable belonging to the delinquent employer or liable party, conducting on-site asset investigations, recommending subpoenas, and issuing arrest warrants, Memoranda of Lien, and requests of FIFAs. Interact extensively with various parties to respond to inquiries; obtain and verify information; resolve issues; and interpret and apply UI tax law.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of related regulations and procedures related to insurance and/or tax requirements; quality assurance and cash management principles; generally accepted accounting principles and practices; and collections activities.

Strong investigative, negotiation, customer service, oral and written communication, and computer skills, including using word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Office Professional).

Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations; work independently and collaboratively to meet goals; conduct research and audits; review and analyze financial and accounting records; collect, analyze report data; make sound recommendations; prepare reports; and provide court testimony and technical assistance.

Must possess valid driver's license and reliable transportation, as extensive travel within service area is required.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of regulations and procedures related to UI employer tax requirements.

Experience working with state and federal UI tax laws and related policies and procedures.
