Job Duties
The Environment Services Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and related tasks to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the facility. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing floors, windows, walls, furniture, carpets, lavatories, and beds; collecting and disposing of trash; setting up rooms for special events; and moving and properly storing furniture after use. The position also requires cleaning up bodily fluids such as feces, urine, and vomit, as well as standing on ladders to hang cubicle and window curtains. Additional responsibilities include gathering and transporting refuse to dumpsters according to schedule, ensuring assigned areas remain free of trash, and cleaning trash cans daily to maintain sanitary and odor-free conditions. The Environmental Services Specialist also transports linens to the laundry truck for transfer. All cleaning equipment must be cleaned after each use, and utility rooms in assigned areas must be maintained and organized, with equipment properly stored at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and operating cleaning equipment.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and work independently or as part of a team.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in housekeeping for a business, facility, or institution.
- Knowledge of principles and practice of infection control.
- Experience with Joint Commission, OSHA, and CDC Standards.
- Experience working in a Joint Commission Accredited and/or CMS certified healthcare facility.
- Experience working with a diverse group of staff and patients.
