Independently provides professional nursing care to patients in a variety of settings, including clinics, homes, schools, and other community or congregate care environments. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive nursing assessments, performing laboratory tests, taking vital measurements, and developing and implementing individualized care plans. Duties may also involve medication administration and case management.
This role actively participates in public health emergencies and community health assessments. All actions performed at this level require licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with state regulations. The position may also include supervision of support staff.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination

Minimum Qualifications
• The selected candidate must have a current unrestricted Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) license and/or with Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) and current CPR certification
• Thorough knowledge/experience of the principles, methods, and procedures of nursing care as applied to prevention and/or early detection of communicable diseases
• Demonstrated work experience ascertaining comprehensive health history, perform physical assessments, perform nursing procedures, administer medication & injections, identify potential problems and methodically establish care plans. Strong interviewing and communication skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation for work-related travel (mileage reimbursed for work-related travel
Additional Considerations
• Knowledge of and/or experience in public health practices, child and adolescent health, communicable disease, emergency preparedness, long term care, and sexual health.
• Effective oral and written communication, organizational and decision-making skills.
• Work experience that demonstrates the ability to listen, understand and empathize in a culturally sensitive manner, and use motivational skills to build rapport with clients and engagement in disease intervention services; ability to work with diverse populations in diverse settings; develop and make presentations.
