Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Taxations (Virginia Tax) Office of Customer and Taxpayer Services is seeking a Special Taxes Manager. The Special Taxes Manager will manage teams by providing a wide range of specialized customer service and compliance functions across a variety of taxes to include Miscellaneous Taxes, Tax Credits, Insurance Premium License Tax, Communication Tax, Motor Rental Tax, Locality Liaison support, Nonprofit Exemption and Bank Franchise Tax.

In this role, you will:

Strategically planning, designing, and managing all aspects of these operational areas

Supporting the Assistant Commissioner and Director of Special Taxes in advancing agency goals

Aligning team initiatives with Virginia Tax’s strategic vision and fostering a collaborative, high-performance work environment



The salary for the position will be commensurate with the applicant's experience. 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule with 2 days remote and 3 days in office per week.

Minimum Qualifications

Supervisor or Manager experience

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and provide quality customer service for both internal and external customers

Analytical skills to research and gather data from inquiries within our systems, compile results and solve problems by using logic

Strong organizational skills to include multi-tasking and prioritizing effectively

General knowledge of Virginia taxes, tax returns, schedules, rules and regulations
