Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Aviation is seeking an administrative and technical support person to support the Aircraft Compliance Manager in administering the Commonwealth’s Aircraft Registration and Compliance Program daily. The specialist will review aircraft registration requests; ensure aircraft sales and use tax compliance; perform research to obtain missing information and verify existing information; conduct and maintain the contract carrier permit process; compile, maintain and retrieve data using various software and data management tools; create reports routinely for tracking, verifying and informing management; communicate with staff and agency customers; and respond to written and verbal inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of spelling and punctuation, grammar, basic math, telephone usage; skilled in use of personal computer and familiarity with commonly used business software applications (Microsoft Word and Excel) along with aviation-specific software applications; knowledge of office methods, procedures and equipment; ability to understand and communicate the policies, procedures and services of the department, division and program; ability to create and maintain records; ability to conduct research, proofread, write legibly, follow directions; read and organize information; employ tact and courtesy; establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and the public; be flexible; and think independently and take corrective action to resolve issues.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of or experience applying Virginia Aviation and Virginia Aircraft Sales and Use Tax laws; knowledge of or experience applying Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations as they relate to Virginia; knowledge of or experience with the aviation industry and its operations. High school diploma or equivalent.
