Job Duties
Western State Hospital is seeking a part time DSA Admissions/Direct Service Associate to serve as the Primary Intake Coordinator after hours in the WSH Admission Office as part of a multidisciplinary team that coordinates primarily TDO admissions to the facility and provide a welcoming and recovery-oriented environment while assisting newly admitted patients with registration and admission to the facility.
This position will receive referral calls from CSBs; screen referrals and provide consultation when appropriate; assess needs of referrals and recommend alternative placement ideas or resources; assign unit for patient based on his/her clinical needs while considering acuity, census, etc. of accepting unit; interview each newly admitted patient to obtain necessary registration information and basic demographic information being mindful of privacy and HIPAA practices; compile record; copies of prescreen, legal papers, intake form, warrants, etc.; program patient security bands for initial hospital tour; participate in Admission Office team meetings and other assignments as scheduled; and provide back-up for admission office duties including answering phones and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with consumers with serious mental illness
- Experience working independently making critical decisions
- Computer experience in a health care setting, such as CSB, hospital, outpatient clinic
- Ability to work flexible schedule primarily 2nd and 3rd shift
Additional Considerations
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in human service field
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Record/interfaces from other software programs (Avatar/Microsoft Office)
- Knowledge of community resources for the SMI population
- Knowledge of Substance Use Disorders and community-based treatment options
- Knowledge of programming security access systems
- Bilingual
- Veteran or veteran spouse
