Job Duties

Virginia Energy is seeking an Energy Modeling Analyst to support the Energy Modeling and Advanced Technology Team in developing, maintaining, and applying analytical models that inform the Commonwealth’s long-term energy planning. This position plays a central role in the development of the Virginia Energy Plan, providing rigorous data-driven insights that support policy, regulatory, and investment decisions.

The Energy Modeling Analyst will work with advanced modeling platforms, including PLEXOS, MetrixND, MetrixLT, ReEDS, and Vensim. The role requires technical expertise in load forecasting, capacity expansion modeling, techno-economic analysis, optimization, and electricity market design.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in order to qualify for this position.

• Experience in energy modeling, forecasting, or technology evaluation, with a focus on advanced energy systems
• Proficiency in energy modeling software, data analysis tools, and familiarity with energy market dynamics
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a track record of using data driven approaches to inform decisions
• Working knowledge of state and federal energy policies, regulations, and initiatives, particularly in Virginia
• Experience conducting economic analysis to assess costs, benefits, and deployment potential
• Experience communicating complex modeling results to policymakers, stakeholders, and the public, bridging technical analysis with accessible insights.
• A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
