Job Description
The Department of Computer Science at Norfolk State University is seeking applications for a 9-month tenure-track Computer Science position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will remain open until it is filled. This position opened on October 27, 2025 and there is a five consecutive workdays minimum posting requirement.
Responsibilities
Duties include teaching graduate, and undergraduate courses, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; developing curricula; serving on departmental, school, and university committees; performing appropriate scholarly and service activities; obtaining external funding and conducting research in computer science, cybersecurity or artificial intelligence.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. (or equivalent) in computer science, or a closely related field.
- Skillset and background to teach a wide range of computer science
courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Proficient in spoken and written English, adequate for classroom instruction and
academic communication.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. (This includes
U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or individuals with an EAD)
Additional Considerations
- Postdoctoral or industry experience
- Experience teaching non-traditional or first-generation students
- Experience with course design or curriculum revision
- Record of service and/or student advising
- Evidence of scholarly potential.
