Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is currently seeking a qualified
candidate to become our SAU Lead Analyst!
Duties include but are not limited to: 

- Responsible for supervising staff and managing performance through clear communication, constructive feedback, and adherence to evaluation protocols.
- Provides accurate and timely emergency communication and warning services, including coordination with state and local agencies.
- Leads complex incident response efforts and ensures dissemination of critical information.
- Oversees alert and notification systems for radiological and public safety events, and supports emergency medical communications for air medical services.
- Manages projects aligned with organizational goals and maintains operational readiness of communications equipment.
- Serves as a key member of the Virginia Emergency Support Team (VEST), supporting disaster response and maintaining professional standards in all duties.

All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official EWP.

Minimum Qualifications

- Extensive knowledge of standard communication procedures and equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of principles of supervision and training.
- Knowledge of geographical areas of the state.
- Knowledge of relevant Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures of recordkeeping including the maintenance and
security of communications reports.
- Knowledge of principles and resources for dealing with hazardous materials.
- Ability to complete computer tasks related to typing of information and completing
documents on computer systems with accuracy, speed and minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with strong coordination and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated abilities to read and interpret maps, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations.
- Ability to analyze data in order to make decisions and maintain situational awareness
across the Commonwealth.
- Ability to operate public safety emergency communications equipment.
- Ability to work in a team environment with all authority levels of local, state, federal,
private sector, and volunteer groups.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and to operate specialized emergency vehicles.

Additional Considerations

- Demonstrated experience leading or serving as a watch analyst within an emergency
response organization
- Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) level B Certification

The salary for this position is negotiable up to the maximum hiring range listed in this posting. Offers will not be made outside of the hiring range.
