Job Duties

Position:

The College of Science Engineering and Technology at Norfolk State University seeks applications for a Laboratory Specialist I for the Department of Biology.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assist the Laboratory Manager by providing support for and ensuring adequate preparation of laboratory courses such as General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Botany, Microbiology, and more. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining stock of consumable supplies and materials, regular maintenance of equipment, responding to faculty requests for lab support, assisting with packages, and ensuring laboratory safety protocols are followed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have experience with laboratory maintenance, laboratory safety, preparing solutions and maintaining inventory.
  • Understanding of safety protocols
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Offfice, Word, Excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and work independently

Additional Considerations

Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related field (preferred not required).
