The Virginia Department of Fire Programs enhances public safety in the Commonwealth by providing supplemental funding, training, fire prevention and life safety education, along with statewide fire code enforcement. About the Position
The role of the Travel and Expense Accountant is to accurately and promptly research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate payables financial transactions in compliance with the Commonwealth’s Accounting Policies and Procedures. This position will be responsible for processing travel vouchers in accordance with DHRM, DOA, and DFP policies/procedures; reconciling accounting records; updating and implementing state, and federal, and agency regulations, policies and procedures; and resolving accounting problems within its job scope.

Minimum Qualifications

· Considerable knowledge and experience processing/keying data accurately, reconciling, and auditing travel expense vouchers.
· Considerable knowledge of fiscal policies and procedures relating to accounts payable, receivable and revenue collection best practices/principles.
· Considerable experience and knowledge demonstrating the ability to interpret and apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
· Considerable experience demonstrating the ability to accurately reconcile documents of moderate complexity.
· Experience demonstrating considerable knowledge of financial management and the ability to follow fiscal state/federal rules and regulations.
· Knowledge demonstrating the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be a team player, and have effective interpersonal skills relating to internal and external customers.
· Experience demonstrating the ability to apply an analytical approach to problem-solving, prioritize/manage multiple tasks simultaneously within a deadline driven environment.
· Considerable experience providing a high-level of customer service to internal and external customers while providing program-based information.
· Experience demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of staff and management.
· Advanced proficiency in computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite software applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook and other related programs.

Additional Considerations

· Experience demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of fiscal policies and procedures relating to accounts receivable and collection principles in accordance with the Commonwealth’s DOA regulations.
· Knowledge of the CAAP Manual and related topics.
· Proficiency in State-specific systems such as Cardinal and electronically filing of 1099s.
· Experience with state accounts payable and receivable practices and procedures.
· Considerable experience demonstrating the ability to review, process, and audit state travel vouchers to ensure compliance with DOA regulations.
