At the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), we create unique dining experiences.

Floris tearoom is an inclusive experience based around the traditions and habits of tea and high tea service around the world. We aim to bring a refreshed interpretation of what a tearoom can be. Our rotating menu is inspired by various tea-centric culinary regions.

General Information:

The work is straightforward, working together to offer an elevated dining experience.

The Floris Server assists the service management of Floris at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Reporting to the Floris Manager, this front-of-house position is responsible for ensuring excellent guest service.

Here is how our Floris Servers accomplish this as a team:

• Greet guests with a friendly and welcoming demeanor. Accurately accept guests’ food and drink orders.

• Serve patrons food and beverages.

• Accurately communicate guest’s order to chefs. Collect payment from guests.

• Assist in setting tables and rearranging the dining area to accommodate larger groups, private parties or as needed.

• Deliver a memorable dining experience by resolving all customer issues promptly. Provide attentive service to diners, like refilling drinks as needed and checking their needs during meals.

• Maintain table settings to include replenishing utensils, filling water glasses, and removing courses as completed.

• Anticipate and accommodate guest needs, respond to requests in a professional and polite manner.

• Perform some cleaning duties, such as at the service station, around the kitchen and in the dining area.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Daytime Availability; Floris is open Saturday through Wednesday, and shifts may begin as early as 9 AM and last as late as 6 PM.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate a professional demeanor with guests and other employees.

• Ability to read, comprehend and follow basic restaurant floor plan, menus and instructions.

• Ability to multitask, solve problems and make sound decisions in an ever-changing restaurant landscape.

• Ability to remain calm, professional and gracious in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.

• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance during service.

• Ability to be prompt and punctual to scheduled shifts.

• Ability to use fine and gross motor skills; finger and hand dexterity; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear; and taste and smell.

• Ability to stand or walk for up to 10 hours. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to maintain knowledge of menu items and ingredients. Ability to handle money accurately.

 

Additional Considerations:

• Prior fine dining, tearoom or food service experience, particularly in a fast-paced environment.

• Knowledge of ABC best practices and regulations; RSVP or TIPS training. Knowledge of fine dining, tea, beer, wine and food.

• ServSafe Food Handler’s certification.
