Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health Professions (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.
The primary purpose of this position is to manage and direct the services required as Executive Director for the Boards of Counseling, Psychology and Social Work; provide executive management and coordination for all facets of board operations, including performance management, policy development and implementation, licensing and disciplinary processes and serve as spokesperson for the boards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Substantial knowledge of the laws, regulations and characteristics pertaining to the
regulation, examination and discipline of professional occupations.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret laws and regulations, to develop policies and procedures, and implement legislation and regulations.
- Knowledge of and the ability to understand and comply with the Administrative Process
Act, Freedom of Information Act and related federal and state law pertaining to
professional occupations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff,
board members, licensees, and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research and evaluations, analyze findings, identify
problems and formulate solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and set priorities for both self and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise professional and paraprofessional staff.
- Demonstrated skills using the Microsoft Office suite (specifically Microsoft Word,
Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and monitor budgets.
Additional Considerations
- Progressively responsible experience in a regulatory, legal, or healthcare environment.
- Experience with the legislative process.
- Demonstrated experience with data management.
- Extensive and progressive management experience.
- Executive level experience in the healthcare or regulatory sector.
- Demonstrated database skills with the System Automation software MLO or similar
software.
