Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
The role of the IT Support Specialist is to provide Tier I & Tier II support for the DJJ IT Facility Service Desk. Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and update software and hardware as necessary to support DJJ initiatives. Provide technical advice and guidance on complex IT problems impacting business units such as Residential, Facilities, Medical, and Education. This position must be able to perform with minimal direct supervision.
Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with network devices, desktop hardware and various operating systems and associated software in a LAN / standalone environment.
- Ability to develop and conduct training.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Selected individuals may need or be required to obtain certifications such as Comp TIA Net +, Comp TIA A+ within the first six months of employment.
This is an hourly/wage position and is limited to 1500 hours to average 29 hours per week in a 12-month period. This position does not include the state benefit package.
Minimum Qualifications
- Transforms incoming requests into clear, prioritized tickets, driving faster resolution and better support experiences;
- Working knowledge of various windows operating systems such as Windows Operating Systems, and associated products to include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of administrative and office management principles and practices;
- Considerable knowledge of learning software programs.
Additional Considerations
- Training and/or equivalent experience in Information Technology or related field.
