Job Duties

The Project Management Office is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Junior Systems Analyst to join our Systems Analyst team. The selected candidate will provide second-tier production support, perform systems and database analysis for reporting needs, and assist with requirements gathering, documentation, and testing. This role works closely with the Systems Analyst Supervisor and team to deliver high-quality, user-centered solutions that support the Commission’s mission.

The Junior Systems Analyst provides excellent customer service while delivering second-tier production support for the Commission’s major software applications. This role conducts systems and database analysis to develop report requirements, assists with gathering and documenting system needs, and supports testing activities. Work is performed under the guidance of the Systems Analyst Supervisor and in collaboration with the Systems Analyst team to ensure accurate, efficient, and user-focused solutions.

About the Department

The Enterprise Project Management Office (PMO) plays a vital role in advancing the Commission’s mission. Our Project Management and Systems Analyst teams ensure smooth delivery of projects, enhancements, and software releases while helping business areas improve processes and collaborate effectively with Information Systems. The PMO also manages the Cooperative Office Education Program, providing career-building opportunities for high school students across the region.

VWC Compensation Structure: 

Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission is an independent agency which allows us to have a more competitive and unique pay structure. This position is a pay grade 7 based on a 14 grade pay structure. Our positions are not classified under DHRM's pay bands.

Telework Structure: 

Our agency is currently using a hybrid model for teleworking. Our positions at this time are not 100% teleworking. All candidates would be expected to report to our Headquarters/Regional Office as requested. Telework scheduling is at the discretion of the Manager based on the business needs of the department.  Upon hire, candidates should expect to have all training and orientation conducted at the Headquarters Office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform detailed, structured analysis of complex, technical issues, and to communicate findings in layman's terms to stakeholders
  • Knowledge of database modeling and retrieval of data from modeled databases preferred
  • Knowledge of requirements analysis, quality assurance, and business process management methodologies preferred
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies including waterfall, RUP, and Agile preferred
  • Knowledge of defining and using Business Analysis best practices and requirements documentation
  • Experience troubleshooting issues and researching solutions
  • Experience with automated systems
  • Experience communicating with a diverse group of stakeholders 
  • Experience working with reports and interpreting data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio; data entry and retrieval from computer databases; and Internet research principles

Additional Considerations

  • Hands-on experience with CASPER and WENDY preferred
  • Familiarity with ticket tracking software such as Footprints or JIRA and/or Microsoft SQL preferred 
  • (IIBA) Certification of Competency in Business Analysis or (IIBA) Certified Business Analysis Professional certificate preferred
