The Virginia Department of the Treasury is currently recruiting for a Senior Accounting Analyst to provide essential accounting and operational support to the Treasury by overseeing key financial processes and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of Unclaimed Property reporting, payroll reconciliation, and operational workflows. This position performs complex accounting tasks, prepares year-end financial statements, and collaborates with internal and external partners to maintain compliance with state and departmental standards. The role also assists multiple Treasury divisions as needed, contributing to process improvements and supporting critical functions that sustain efficient and effective financial operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Demonstrated ability to compile and analyze financial information, demonstrating strong technical and analytical skills, including year-end processes.
• Demonstrated experience providing oversight for assigned program area’s accounting operations, including monthly reconciliations, and invoice and vendor setup.
• Demonstrated reliability in providing backup for security for public deposits.
• Proven ability to independently conduct research, analyze data, interpret and apply regulations, develop policies and procedures, and develop supportable conclusions and/or recommendations.
• Considerable experience working in a high-volume automated accounting environment.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate current work processes and make recommendations for enhancements.
• Experience working well with other professionals at various levels.
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, customer service, analytical and personal computer skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Excel and Word.

Additional Considerations

• Experience with Cardinal, the Commonwealth’s accounting system, to include payroll reconciliation, is highly desirable
• Previous Unclaimed Property experience
