Job Duties
Piedmont Geriatric Hospital (PGH) and the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation (VCBR) are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Information Technology Technician I to join our team. This entry-level position provides front-line technical support to clinical and administrative staff in a fast-paced state hospital environment.
This role provides troubleshooting and resolution for routine hardware and software issues involving computers, tablets, mobile devices, printers, phones, and standard workstation applications. The position supports user account management activities, including creating, modifying, and disabling accounts, and resolves access issues related to network folders, business applications, shared drives, and other operational technologies. The IT Specialist assists with installation, setup, and configuration of new hardware and software in alignment with established procedures and ensures accurate documentation and tracking of all service requests. The role also provides essential support for the facility’s electronic health record (EHR) system, including iPad and Surface Pro troubleshooting, application concerns, and printing issues. In addition, the position coordinates with VITA and approved vendors to address state-managed system or software issues requiring escalation. The IT Specialist is expected to deliver professional, customer-focused service, help manage and prioritize helpdesk tickets in the absence of senior staff, and participate in training related to new systems, hardware, or software to support ongoing operational continuity.
Minimum Qualifications

Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and standard troubleshooting principles.

Demonstrated ability to provide clear communication and professional customer service in a fast-paced support environment.

Ability to follow established technical procedures, document actions accurately, and escalate complex issues as appropriate.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a technical support team within a healthcare setting.

Valid driver’s license is required.
Additional Considerations
Preferred:
• High School graduate with associate’s degree related to Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics or another related field is preferred. Related educational training and/or experience may substitute for college degree.
• Extensive experience in networking and fiber optics
• Extensive experience of Computer hardware and software
• Experience working in a medical or medical related setting, corrections or corrections related setting preferred
