Western State Hospital is seeking a Chief Medical Officer to supervise full-time and part-time psychiatric providers overseeing all Medical Staff activities and supervising the Primary Care, Admissions Office, and Pharmacy Managers and ensure that policies, procedures, and outcomes of health care activities inclusive of departments supervised comply with regulatory, legal, and medical standards.
The Chief Medical Officer will also ensure the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation; address and document any performance, behavior, and attendance issues as they occur; review cases at the request of the treatment teams, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Quality Officer (CQO), and/or Patient Advocate and prepare written reports as needed; provide oversight and review of patient admission, risk assessment, treatment, transfer and discharge processes and procedures; ensure Joint Commission and CMS standards for medical care and treatment are met with few citations; support a quality educational experience for trainees that enhances knowledge, skills, and fosters appreciation of and interest in psychiatry as a potential career path; chair and/or is a member of hospital and community committees, performance improvement teams, and/or collaborative initiatives; and conduct regular rounds throughout the facility.

Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree and completion of an accredited psychiatry residency training program
- Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligible for license (must obtain within 3 months of employment)
- Active DEA license prior to the start of work
- Current Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
Additional Considerations
Clinical experience in hospital psychiatry with some familiarity with forensic psychiatry.
- Past administrative experience in hospital psychiatry.
- Experience supervising non-clinical departments.
