Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

DJJ is currently seeking a Community Engagement Unit (CEU) Administrator. Under the direction and guidance of the Director/Chief of the Community Engagement Unit (CEU), the CEU Administrator serves as the point person for DJJ Public Safety Programs and Community Outreach by managing the financial and programmatic aspects for general funds, and non-general fund projects; and will assist with program execution, training, and implementation for new and existing grants.

This role will supervise the day-to-day operations of the CEU Analyst, along with providing training and development. Oversee the process of developing the CEU Analyst on procedures and operational manual. Ensure the CEU Analyst maintains current certifications, remain current regarding legal matters, and receive regular updates. Identify training courses for staff to enhance their overall knowledge and maintain training records. Ensures the department objectives are achieved by maximizing operational efficiency and effectiveness; and applicable laws, regulations and policies are consistently followed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of the administrative/criminal laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Juvenile Justice system.
  • Working knowledge of state policies procedures, operations, and intervention and prevention programs.
  • Working knowledge of the judicial process, community and institutional needs and practices; of agency policies and procedures.
  • Ability to gather and analyze and interpret information to compile information, appraise information and determine recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to prepare comprehensive written reports.
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, and maintain good interpersonal relations and communications with other staff as well as effective working relationships with government officials, community stakeholders and the general public.
  • Computer literacy to include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, data management systems, including federal and state reporting systems such as Cardinal, OGMS, JustGrants, and ASAP.

Additional Considerations

  • Considerable training and/or experience in law enforcement, public administration, or federal and state grant program compliance and administration.
