Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Taxation seeks a fiscal professional to serve as a Senior Budget Analyst. The Sr. Budget Analyst acts as the lead budget analyst and supports the Budget Director in the Office of Administration. In this role, you will assist the Budget Director with the management of the Department of Taxation’s operating and capital budgets, financial planning and resource allocation. This role, with the guidance of the Budget Director, is critical to providing data-driven insights through the creation of financial reports, presentations and executive briefings to ensure that agency leadership has the information it needs to make sound fiscal and operational decisions. This role also serves as the backup for the Budget Director. 



This position is located in our Central Office in downtown Richmond, Virginia. 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. 

The anticipated annual salary is commensurate with experience, up to $90,000.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Experience with government budget development, accounting, financial analysis, forecasting, generating reports and making recommendations

Proficiency in financial software tools such as Microsoft Excel and the ability to query, run reports, and use databases systems

Understanding of Virginia’s state budget and the Appropriations Act

Experience with Cardinal and Performance Budgeting systems

Experience with budgetary position control and management of position control systems

Ability to present data in a clear and easily understandable manner

Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with all divisions across the agency

 

 

Additional Considerations

Advanced knowledge and skill with state government operations, budget and fiscal policies, and Commonwealth financial systems

Extensive experience in the public sector

Advanced data analytics expertise with working knowledge of SQL

Skilled in creating dashboards using Smartsheets, PowerBI, or similar platforms
