About the Agency:
The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Purpose of Position:
This position manages the Fire and Emergency Services program at the Fort Pickett, Blackstone Complex. Major areas of focus include, but not limited to Fire Prevention, Protection and Education, Emergency Response Operations, Emergency Medical Services, and Emergency Communications. This position is aligned under the Emergency Management / Emergency Services Directorate.

Firefighter I, Firefighter II, HAZMAT Operations, ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300, ICS 400, ICS 700, ICS 800, Fire Officer II, Driver Pump Operator, Fire Officer III, EVOC Level 3, EVOC Level 4, EVOC Level 5.

Minimum Qualifications
The knowledge of supervisory principles and ability to effectively manage the operations & programs of the unit/team to include facilities, resource and personnel management best practices and methods;
Knowledge of and skill in, firefighting, rescue and EMS operations, principles, practices, techniques and use of specialize equipment;
Knowledge of Incident Command and strategies/tactics and ability to manage and oversee operations of the Section and demonstrate the ability to serve as Incident Commander and manage emergency incidents;
Ability to work under pressure; identify and analyze needed data; make decisions; maintain emotional self-control; and provide senior-level leadership during peak work periods, emergencies, and other situations;
The ability to be open-minded, particularly with disciplinary investigations and complaints;
The ability to plan for future needs of the section;
Possess basic knowledge of Fire & EMS department operations and the ability to transmit knowledge to subordinate level supervisors, and staff;
The ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively with a wide variety of people; and the ability to write clear, concise reports;
The ability to coordinate activities between shifts, other sections, and other agencies or entities as needed;
Possess knowledge of other agencies (local, state, and federal) that can assist in times of need;
Ability to eliminate barriers to facilitate positive change through the decisions and actions of others;
Knowledge of Emergency Communications Operations and operations systems, functions, and processes;
Ability to use specialized dispatch, firefighting, emergency medical services, record management, scheduling and incident management & command computerized hardware and software systems;
ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 required;
Certification in IFSAC / Pro-Board Firefighter Level I, Firefighter Level II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Fire Officer III, EVOC Class 5, and Driver Pump Operator;
Validation of experience as a current practicing Nationally Registered Paramedic;
Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required;
Extensive career experience in Fire and Emergency Services, with documented work experience above the company single-crew management level;
Demonstrated experience managing at the middle/upper level, budget development and operations, performance management, and training development.
Additional Considerations
Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) certification preferred, but not required for entry into position.

Must obtain ARFF Firefighter certification within 12 months of hire;
Must successfully pass the NFPA 1582 physical within 90 days of hire;
