Job Duties

The VA Department of Motor Vehicles is looking to hire a Special Registration Technician for a part-time wage position at the Richmond, Virginia location.

The Special Registration Technician provides support in processing vehicle registration applications, ensuring compliance with DMV policies, and maintaining accurate records. Responsibilities include handling specialized plate requests, managing documentation workflows, resolving highway use fee disputes, and assisting customers and team members.

Core Duties:
•Process specialized plate applications and verify eligibility.
•Handle surrendered plates, refunds, and update vehicle records.
•Sort and process internet-based registration renewals and decals.
•Batch, scan, and process registration documents; correct data errors.
•Manage incoming/outgoing mail and workflow accuracy.
•Monitor Highway Use Fee inquiries, research records, correct MPG data, and issue refunds.
•Respond to customer inquiries and assist coworkers with transactions.

Wage positions are limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
