Job Duties
This is a Quasi Full Time Position limited to 32 hours per week. This position does come with the state benefits package to include health, life, retirement and leave.
This position provides comprehensive speech and language pathology services to psychogeriatric patients using a patient-centered care model. Responsibilities include identifying, assessing, treating, and training individuals to support safe swallowing and communication, with the goal of returning patients to the least restrictive diet appropriate to their needs. The role emphasizes dignity, self-determination, and empowerment for both patients and staff while prioritizing individual interests and respectful collaboration. The incumbent works as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver evaluation, treatment, and training services aimed at maximizing functional communication and swallowing skills, including nutritional management services and modified barium swallow studies. This position requires the ability to assess a dynamic patient environment, manage the therapeutic milieu, and coordinate care across disciplines while independently managing assigned responsibilities. Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to share and utilize resources effectively are essential.
Successful candidates will have qualifications that include: considerable knowledge of speech-language pathology assessment and treatment, audiological services, nutritional management, and effective resource management principles; specialized clinical skills necessary to serve individuals with physical disabilities, chronic illness, and geriatric psychiatric conditions; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary treatment or recovery team; and the ability to lead and coordinate efforts among multiple disciplines and cross-functional departments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of all requirements for a master's degree in speech/language pathology.
- Licensed and certified to practice speech/language pathology in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Experienced at designing, implementing, and evaluating assessment and treatment/training strategies in the domain of speech/language pathology
Additional Considerations
Prior experience in a hospital setting.
Prior experience in a psychiatric setting.
